Write to Unite

Amplifying the global queer voice

A radical open-letter lounge & living archive

An urgent, intimate project to capture and amplify the diverse voices of the LGBTQIA+ community — transforming personal narratives into a powerful living archive of queer memory and resistance.

Capital Pride London is proud to bring this international collaboration into our mission — promoting Radical Inclusion and Honouring Our Roots on a global stage.

The concept

Transformative words

Write to Unite has been reimagined as a decisive moment of gratitude, grief, joy and celebration — expressed through the enduring power of the written word.

Originally birthed through Maxivive's BOYC (The Encyclopaedia of Young Creatives in Nigeria, 2018), the project has been expanded under Salon Maxivive in collaboration with visionary artist Papa Oyeyemi — giving the initial concept a global, archival presence.

How it works

The three pillars

The core of the project is simple, yet profound.

1

The Letter

A public dialogue

Queer writers are invited to draft public open letters addressed to those who shaped the queer narrative in the UK — ancestors, mentors, political figures or loved ones. A chance to voice deeply personal thoughts in a public, political context.

2

The Reading

A collective moment

The letters are read live during public events, turning private reflection into a collective moment of public advocacy and emotional connection — a shared experience of vulnerability and solidarity.

3

The Archive

Preserving our history

Each completed letter is signed by the writer, the recipient (or their representative) and the event organiser, then joins a living, physical archive — preserving this era's struggles and triumphs for future historians and activists, and securing our place in history.

“People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them.”

James Baldwin
